MEITEI announces dedication show at Kiyomizu-dera, Kyoto

A dedication performance by MEITEI will take place at Kiyomizu-dera, a UNESCO World Heritage site. A deeply meaningful moment, as MEITEI offers his music back to Kyoto, the place that shaped the foundation of his artistic path.
The music MEITEI dedicates here embodies the very image of “Japan” he has continued to observe since his twenties while living in Kyoto.
Traveling the city by bicycle, he explored not only temples and shrines, but also scenes such as the red moon floating over ponds in nighttime Sagano, and the colors of everyday life glimpsed deep within shadowed alleyways.
Wandering Kyoto night after night, he re-examined the question
“What is Japan?”
through his own eyes, continuously searching for the sounds hidden within the city.
The landscapes and memories he encountered gradually crystallized into his distinctive musical language. Kyoto became the place where this musical identity was born, through years of devoted practice.
He named this vision “Lost Japan,” reconstructing impressions and memories of Japanese culture that are gradually disappearing, through a contemporary sensibility.
Since then, he has presented solo performances and tours across Japan, Europe, and Asia. Performing not only in live houses and outdoor festivals, but also in temples, cultural properties, and historical sites, he continues to deepen his artistic expression.
This dedication performance stands as a culmination of these works and his enduring devotion to Kyoto.
